Newton Abbot

The Newton Abbot model railway is the current version of Dawlish in OO, which includes Newton Abbot and Kingswear stations as well as the seawall at Dawlish.

A key difference from the real Newton Abbot is that I imagined that the LSWR built a line from Crediton to the Torbay area which intersects with the Moretonhampstead line. This enables me to run the southern stock that I acquired when I was building the Exeter version of Dawlish in OO. To support the extra traffic, Newton Abbot gains an extra Up platform adjacent to what was the Up through line and a bigger station building that looks a bit like the one at Exeter St. David’s (nothing like a bit of recycling!)

A complete track plan for Dawlish in OO is provided below; it’s quite complex so you may wish to view the individual components separately via this page. Alternatively, for a drivers eye view tour of Dawlish in OO, click here.

The layout is really three layouts in one:

  • Watch the trains go by along the Dawlish seawall as a continuous run
  • Run the Kingswear terminus
  • Run the whole railway centred on Newton Abbot

The railway is served by two fiddleyards, one called “Torbay” between Kingswear and Newton Abbot and one representing the rest of the world, i.e. Paddington, Penzance and the North.

The full track plan is shown below. However, the railway is on overlapping layers, so you can access individual elements of the plan via the “Anyrail track plans” sub menu or by clicking here.

A tour of Dawlish in OO
