Exeter St. Davids

The Exeter St. David’s model railway was a version of Dawlish in OO that included Exeter St. David’s and Ilfracombe as well as the seawall at Dawlish. The track plan, as published in the “Plan of the Month” section of the March 2012 issue of Railway Modeller, is reproduced below along with a few photos.

The black and white photo above was taken by my Dad; the rest by yours truly.

The concept is similar to the Newton Abbot version of Dawlish in OO in that it features a continuous run along the seawall for watching trains go by. There is a terminus station at Ilfracombe rather than Kingswear in the new layout.

Another difference is that there are separate terminating fiddleyards for the Paddington and Penzance ends of the main line whereas the Newton Abbot one is a combined, through fiddleyard. The latter is more convenient for plug and play running a few trains without the need for turning locos or resetting positions if part way through a timetable session.
