Exeter St. David’s Plan
This is the plan re-produced from my ‘Plan of the Month’ article published in the Railway Modeller magazine. The plan has the following features:
- Continous run through Dawlish station enabling ‘watching the trains go by’ running
- Exeter St Davids station
- Ilfracombe station
- Four fiddleyards, representing Paddington, Torbay/Plymouth/Penzance and Waterloo

Impressive peter, LOOKS LIKE THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF POUNDS WILL BE WORTH IT. LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THE FINISHED PROJECT, IN PARTICULAR, THE GREAT WESTERN HOTEL DRINKING ESTABLISHMENT ADJACENT TO THE MAIN STATION.
ReplyALL THE BEST WITH THE PROJECT!

Sadly Exeter was the old layout and I never got to build the hotel. I do agree it is a great drinking place – used to go there weekly when I was at uni for railway society meetings!

Hi, impressed with what you’ve done so far! I’m also working on a St Davids model in 4mm. Do you have any scale drawings of the station buildings you’d be willing to share?

Hi Richard
thanks for your message. I haven’t got scale diagrams and decided to go with something that looked to give the right impression, given that I don’t have room to fit a scale version in!
That said I am sure I have seen some somewhere – there was also an article in hornby magazine somewhere called ‘Devon Junction‘ which you may have seen. That was of Exeter and the person who built that railway as appeared either on rmweb or yormodelrailway.net – I think the latter. On that site he explained how he went about the arches above the canopy on platform 1 as I recall – something I need to get around to myself. I’ll try and remember where I saw the scale diagrams…- could be the GWR trackplans book I suppose, or maybe the network rail site.
Please tell me more about your model of Exeter St. David’s. I have mainly switched to modelling Newton Abbot instead as I had got 80% of the way there with Exeter and fancied a change rather that repeating what I had already done when forced to dismantle the old railway due to a ‘change in domestic circumstances’.
How did you find my site?
